Here&#8217;s a rough guide:<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><ul><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Brand new to club soccer? <\/b><\/strong>Start with IRL. It&#8217;s the smoothest transition from rec.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Played club before, ready for more? <\/b><\/strong>SCL offers meaningful competition with a manageable schedule.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Strong player, fully committed? <\/b><\/strong>Premier or ECNL RL, depending on evaluation at tryouts.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The coaching staff makes league placement decisions after tryouts. They&#8217;ll consider technical ability, physical readiness, and attitude \u2014 and they&#8217;ll communicate with your family about where your child fits and why.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><em><i>Note: If you see references to WPSL or NPL\/DPL on older parts of our website, those leagues are no longer active for Utah Surf. The current league structure is ECNL RL, Premier, SCL, and IRL.<\/i><\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7c4e4ac e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"7c4e4ac\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e5cad41 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e5cad41\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4><strong><em><b><i>ECNL Regional League<\/i><\/b><\/em><\/strong><\/h4><p>The top tier. The Elite Clubs National League Regional League is a national platform for elite youth soccer development. Our ECNL RL teams compete against top clubs across the Intermountain region \u2014 think Boise, Idaho, Colorado, and the best programs in Utah. It comes with access to ECNL showcases, a college recruiting platform, and national visibility that state leagues can&#8217;t match.<\/p><p>ECNL RL is by tryout selection. Not every age group has an ECNL RL team \u2014 it depends on the player pool and competitive readiness. For full details, visit our ECNL program page.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><h4><strong><em><b><i>UYSA Premier<\/i><\/b><\/em><\/strong><\/h4><p>Premier is the highest level of play within the state league system. It&#8217;s a step below ECNL RL but still very competitive. Premier teams typically train three or more times per week and compete in a full state schedule with tournaments. For a lot of players, Premier is the right balance of high-level competition and reasonable family commitment.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><h4><strong><em><b><i>SCL (State Competitive League)<\/i><\/b><\/em><\/strong><\/h4><p>The State Competitive League is the next tier down from Premier. It&#8217;s a strong option for players who are competitive and committed but aren&#8217;t quite at the Premier level yet \u2014 or who prefer a slightly lighter schedule. SCL teams train regularly and play a full slate of league games.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><h4><strong><em><b><i>IRL (Intermountain Recreation League)<\/i><\/b><\/em><\/strong><\/h4><p>IRL is our development-level league. It&#8217;s designed for younger players, players new to club soccer, or players who want competitive games without the full travel and time commitment of higher leagues. Don&#8217;t let the &#8220;recreation&#8221; in the name fool you \u2014 IRL games are still competitive, and the training is real.
