2026/27 Tryouts — Coming Soon | Learn More →

United States Soccer governing bodies have mandated that clubs return to grade-based organization of teams for the 2026-2027 season. (USYS, US Club and USSSA). Organizations will be using an August 1 to July 31 age group, for the 2026-27 season. This is a change from the previous January 1 to December 31 cut-off.

Please see the Age Group Matrix below to determine the appropriate age group for your child. Because change is inherently uncertain, it’s common for many questions to arise so we have also created a FAQ page. As we navigate these changes as a club and as a community, we are excited for what’s ahead for youth soccer and invite you to join us in our quest to be the best of the best soccer club in Utah!

For general questions, check out our FAQ PAGE but you can also send questions to pipeline@utahsurfsoccer.com or you may contact our directors. (listed below)

Grade-Based Age Change for 2026/27

Starting with the 2026/27 season, UYSA is transitioning to a grade-based age cutoff. The new cutoff is August 1 – July 31 (aligned with the school year) instead of the previous January 1 – December 31 calendar year cutoff. This means some players will shift age groups.

The Surf Soccer Difference

The strength of our club comes from our focus at every level on the development of your child’s physical skills, emotional maturity and sportsmanship in a safe and positive environment. We believe that participation in sports as a whole, and soccer specifically, can play an important role in the development of your child into a confident and respectful young man or young woman.

We offer expanded playing opportunities with Surf affiliate soccer teams across the nation. This is something that no other club in Utah can offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. If you’re between regions (say, between Highland and Orem), you’re welcome to attend tryouts at both. Coaches across regions communicate and will make sure your child gets evaluated fairly regardless of where they try out.

Life happens. If your child misses a scheduled session, contact us at pipeline@utahsurfsoccer.com and we’ll work out an alternative evaluation. We don’t want a scheduling conflict to keep a good player from finding the right team.

Players try out based on birth year. Starting with the 2026/27 season, age groups use a grade-based cutoff (August 1 – July 31). If you’re unsure which group your child falls into, check our tryout registration page or email pipeline@utahsurfsoccer.com.

Absolutely. We have teams at every level, including IRL teams designed specifically for players transitioning from rec to club. Don’t let inexperience keep you from trying out — our coaches evaluate potential, not just current ability.
