Silvey was named Technical Director for Utah Surf Soccer Club in May 2022.
Prior to his arrival at Utah Surf, Silvey was named head coach of the Illinois State University women’s soccer team in January 2017 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach for the Redbirds. Silvey helped the program to claim the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championship in 2016, springboarding the team to the NCAA Tournament where they would win a first-round game over Michigan. Silvey would also lead the Redbirds to reach the MVC finals in 2019 and MVC semi-finals in 2018 and 2021. While at ISU, Silvey recruited and coached players that drafted to the NWSL, signed to play professionally in France & Sweden, and that earned awards including CoSida Academic All-American, Senior CLASS All-American, MVC Player of the Year, and MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Before his time at ISU, Silvey spent six years leading the Reivers at Iowa Western Community College as the women’s soccer head coach. At the helm of IWCC, Silvey led his team to a national championship in 2013 and a national runner-up in 2014. For the performance during the 2013 season, Silvey was named the 2013 NJCAA and USC National Coach of the Year. He coached his teams to four district championships, as well as six regional and conference titles. Prior to being the head coach at IWCC, Silvey served as the assistant coach for three seasons with the Reivers.
Before he began coaching at the collegiate level, Silvey served at the club soccer level as a technical director and head coach. Also, from 2008 to 2012, Silvey was the head girls soccer coach at Glenwood Community High School in Glenwood, Iowa. In four of his five seasons at the helm of GCHS, the team was ranked in the top-10 in the state with a ranking as high as No. 3 in 2012. Silvey was also the co-founder and director of the Council Bluffs United Soccer Academy and worked as an Olympic Development Program staff member.
Silvey was a standout player at Iowa Western and was a two-time ICCAC First Team All-Region and a USC All-Region Honorable Mention. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business, marketing and finance in 2008 from Buena Vista. Silvey holds a USSF “A” and USC Level III goalkeeper license.
Izzy Gines – Co-Head Coach
Izzy currently owns Forte Soccer Training LLC in which she trains and mentors athletes full time. Alongside individual and small group trainings, she trains teams in the Salt Lake valley and helps them progress by analyzing game play/practices and crafting strategies for coaches to advance and develop their teams. Izzy has experience in training almost every age, skill level, and has trained blind and deaf athletes (including USWDNT athletes), and has interpreted for deaf coaches using ASL. In her early training experience, she mentored under the BYU Men’s Soccer head coach and worked with dozens of clubs in Utah County, building experience with all different ages and skill levels, including directing youth camps, club tryouts, and tournaments for hundreds of kids ages 4-17 years old in Utah County.
During her college years she founded the Utah Valley Women’s Club Soccer Team, which quickly grew to the top collegiate club program in the state and to one of the most successful women’s club programs in the U.S., placing in numerous national tournaments and showcases. She continues to work with the UVU collegiate club team as a head coach and mentoring students in leadership roles within the team. While in her college years at UVU, she joined the WPSL and had the experience of playing with some of the best female collegiate athletes in Utah. In 2020, Izzy co-founded the first UWS women’s team in Utah, and in the same year graduated from Utah Valley University with her Bachelor’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting. Prior to her collegiate experience in Utah, Izzy grew up in Boise where she played for Idaho Rush, placing in state tournaments on the club and high school level and received All State awards.
Kiona Silvey – Assistant Coach & Director of Soccer Operations
Kiona currently coaches a 2014 and 2013 girls team for Utah Surf Soccer Club. She also is an assistant coach for the 2010 team who are recent Deseret Conference League Champions, State Cup Champions, Far West Regional Champions and attended the USYS National Championship Series. During the last few years at Surf she has and is currently being mentored by Jennifer Rawlings and Brad Silvey.
She also currently is an assistant coach for the Utah Valley Women’s Club Soccer Team. Who have and continue to place in multiple national tournaments and showcases. Being one of the top collegiate clubs in the state of Utah. She played for them for 3 years prior to coaching and was awarded MVP for the 2017-2018 season.
Prior to coaching for Utah Surf and UVU Club she has worked with a range of age groups including academy leagues and high schools. She coached for Mountain View High School as an assistant coach for Varsity and head coach for JV, and was an assistant coach for Maple Mountain High School’s sophomore team.
As a player Kiona played at Iowa Western for Brad Silvey. In 2013 they won the programs first ever NJCAA National Championship. The following year she captained the 2014 NJCAA National Championship runner up team. She was named ICCAC All Region XI 1st team in 2013 & 2014, NSCAA 2nd team All-American in 2013 and NSCAA 1st team All-American in 2014. During her time at Iowa she was also awarded Most Inspirational and The Vanguard award for leadership. In high school she lettered and started in varsity all four years, receiving MVP’s in multiple categories, made the all state team and played for the WPSL team The Utah Starzz.
Last year Kiona played for the Utah Surf WPSL team. She was also awarded the Girls Rookie Coach of the Year for Utah Surf Soccer Club. She is working on getting her National USSF D License.
